My UNC Summer Pal Academy Experience
Submitted By: Kati Kuntz | Buffalo Re-4j School District
As a student in the MAT-PEPAL program through UNC, we had the opportunity to participate in the UNC Summer PAL Academy as the P.E. instructors. This summer program lasted two weeks. We were given the option to live on campus or commute. The first week consisted of classroom work. We were in class from 8 AM to 4 PM each day preparing lessons, doing group work and learning different techniques to gather and analyze data. This was intense, but worth the time. The second week was the camp.
As camp leaders, we were split into groups. We used the lesson plans we prepared the week before to lead a P.E. session, another group member collected data, and another group member evaluated the lesson based on a prepared evaluation sheet. This whole program was well organized and very beneficial. If you are looking to gain more experience in the field of Physical Education, I highly recommend the MAT-PEPAL program through UNC.
